San Franciscos Sourdough Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 12 slices colombo french bread- tear into small pieces
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 6 eggs - separate yolks & egg whites (hold eggs whites to use later)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • topping: (use egg whites from above.)
  • 6 cups milk
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Pudding:
  3. 2. Place bread, raisins, and butter in a large 9 x 15 glass baking dish
  4. 3. Sprinkle on cinnamon
  5. 4. In a large bowl mix well the egg yolks, 1 cup of sugar, salt, 1 tsp vanilla, and milk
  6. 5. Pour over bread
  7. 6. Bake for 50 minutes, then let cool
  8. Topping: (we decided it was already how we would like it without the added topping) But for those that want to go that extra mile…
  9. 7. In a small bowl mix the egg whites, 2/3 cup of sugar, and 1/2 tsp vanilla until it peaks
  10. 8. Spread over cooled mixture making peaks
  11. 9. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown
