Raisin Bread (Pre-1940's)

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 4 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp fat
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Sift dry ingredients, reserving a little flour.
  2. Add milk, eggs and melted fat.
  3. Beat mixture throughly.
  4. Sift flour over chopped raisins, stir mixture.
  5. Place in greased loaf pan and let stand for 20 minutes.
  6. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  7. Chopped dates or figs may be subtituted for raisins.
