Old Fashioned Slow Cooked Grits by Microwave

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup real grits (not quick cooking)
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp butter

Directions:

  1. Place grits in a small bowl.
  2. Cover with water.
  3. Stir well to allow chaff to float to the surface.
  4. Slowly pour off water to drain off chaff.
  5. Repeat, drain well.
  6. Place cleaned grits in a 2-quart casserole dish with 5 cups water and 1/2 tsp salt;
  7. Mix well.
  8. DO NOT COVER DISH!
  9. Place dish in microwave set on high.
  10. Cook for 15 minute.
  11. Remove, stir well.
  12. Repeat previous step.
  13. Repeat previous step again.
  14. Remove.
  15. Stir in butter until melted and grits are smooth and creamy.
