Old-Fashioned Gingerbread

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup boiling water (add last)

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together, adding the water last.
  2. Put into a 12-inch greased baking pan (or two 8-inch cake pans).
  3. Bake at 375° for about 30 minutes or until it tests done to touch or with a toothpick.
