Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 oz yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 -6 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 4 tbsp shortening

Directions:

  1. Soften yeast in warm water with honey.
  2. Combine milk and water and shortening
  3. Scald
  4. Mix in sugar and salt.
  5. Stir until melted.
  6. When lukewarm
  7. Add 2 cups flour.
  8. Add yeast mixture
  9. Then oats.
  10. Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough
  11. Knead until smooth and satiny.
  12. About 10 minutes
  13. Place in greased bowl and brush top with melted shortening
  14. Let rise 1 hour
  15. Punch down let rest 10 minutes
  16. Shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 by 5 by 3 inch pans
  17. Brush with melted shortening
  18. Let rise about 45 minutes
  19. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
