Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups milk, scalded (cook on low until it just barely starts to boil)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 cups flour
  • 3 (1/4 oz) packages yeast

Directions:

  1. Put butter, sugar and salt together in a bowl. Pour in the scalded milk.
  2. Add yeast to warm water. and then add eggs to yeast mixture.
  3. Mix and add to sugar and butter mixture.
  4. Add 6 cups flour. Mix well (thats right, just mix well, and add enough flour so it isn't sticky (just barely enough so it doesn't stick to your hands).
  5. Cover with dry towel - let rise 1 hour.
  6. Punch down and shape into 2 loaves.
  7. Put into greased pans (it can be shaped into loaf pans or made into braided loafs. I make one big braided loaf).
  8. Let rise again for 1 hour - (until doubled).
  9. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  10. Makes two loaves.
