  1. Preheat oven to 375*. In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening with electric mixer on medium speed for 30 sec.
  2. Add brown sugar, baking soda and 1/4 tsp salt; beat until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add flour, beating at a low speed just until combined.
  4. Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts. Drop dough from rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake for 8-10 min or until golden. Cool for 1 min on cookie sheet, then transfer to wire racks. Cool. Makes 12 (5” diameter) cookies.
