Mom's Amish Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • colored crystal sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 and spray cookie sheets with a non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix shortening, sugar, and egg in a large bowl until well blended; add the flour and mix well.
  3. Then add the baking soda, cream of tartar, vanilla, and almond flavoring; mix well.
  4. Roll cookie dough in colored sugar and than form into a ball.
  5. Put the balls on a cookie sheet and flatten out just a little bit.
  6. Bake at 350 for 8 minutes.
  7. Let them sit for a minute on the cookie sheet once done and then transfer them to a cookie rack.
