Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 dash ground cloves
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 lemon , juice of
  • 1 orange , juice and zest of

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and spices well.
  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
  4. Stir in pecans.
  5. Press 2/3 of this into an 8 square pan.
  6. Combine boiling water and baking soda.
  7. Add molasses and mix thoroughly.
  8. Pour over mixture in pan.
  9. Sprinkle the rest of the crumbs on top.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  11. Orange Sauce.
  12. Combine sugar, flour, constarch, and salt in a small saucepan.
  13. Add boiling water and butter.
  14. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture is thick and clear.
  15. Remove from heat.
  16. Add lemon and orange ingredients.
  17. Serve with Magnolia Manor Dessert.
