Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup solid shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 2/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 1/2 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Cream shortening with sugar
  2. Add eggs
  3. Sift flour, measure, and sift again with baking powder and salt.
  4. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to shortening mixture, blending well. Stir in nuts and peel. pour in loaf pan and bake at 350 for one hour.
  5. Combine 1/4 c sugar with 1/4 c lemon juice and pour ovr loaf while hot. cool and remove from pan NOTE: this recipe came to me without the milk in the ingredient list, but in the directions..i just play with the milk till i get the right consistency for a bread batter..
