Ingredients:

  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 3 tblsppon white sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups water

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, sprinkle the yeast over 6 cups of flour.
  2. Heat 2 1/4 cups of water. dissolve the sugar, salt and crisco. reserve the remaining 1/4 cup of water.
  3. Once the water temp is warm (not hot!), begin mixing into the flour and knead well.
  4. If the dough is too dry, add more reserved water, 1 tsp at a time until dough is soft but not too dry.
  5. Cover the dough and let rise for atleast 1 hr.
  6. 30min before the dough is ready, begin heating the oil in a deep heavy frying pan at medium heat.
  7. Pinch off a softball sized ball of dough and roll approx 3/16 thick.
  8. Cut into 3-4 in squares and fry until golden brown. place on paper towlels to absorb the oil. Enjoy!
