Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/8 cups sugar
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar , packed
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder

Directions:

  1. To prepare BASE:.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together
  3. Stir in milk and shortening; mix till smooth - add nuts, if desired.
  4. Spread in a 13x9 baking pan and sprinkle with the topping.
  5. To prepare TOPPING:.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cocoa powder thoroughly -
  7. After sprinkling over base - cover entire batter with 2 5/8 cups boiling water.
  8. Bake at 350* for 40 minutes.
