Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle milk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
  2. Turn dough out onto a wellfloured surface; knead lightly 10 to 12 times.
  3. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 8 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve hot.
