Homemade Vanilla Custard

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine

Directions:

  1. Bring first 5 ingredients to a boil in a heavy saucepan over medium heat (about 20 minutes), whisking contantly; boil, whisking constantly or until thickened.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in butter and vanilla.
  4. Place heavy duty plastic wrap directly on surface of custard to keep skin from forming.
  5. Chill 2 hours
