Grandma Faye's Hot Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 4 -5 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Combine 1/2 c water with yeast and set aside to proof.
  2. Combine remaining 1 cup water, salt, sugar and oil.
  3. Stir in 2 c flour- enough to make a soft dough.
  4. Stir in yeast and beat vigorously.
  5. Add remaining flour.
  6. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  7. Let rise in a greased bowl until double.
  8. Punch down.
  9. Can be rolled out and cut like biscuits or just formed into rolls.
  10. Cover and let rise.
  11. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes and nicely browned.
