Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup lard or 1 cup shortening
  • 7 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp vinegar
  • 1 1/2 lbs round steaks, cubed
  • 3/4 cup carrot, diced
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Directions:

  1. Dough Instructions:.
  2. Combine flour, salt, baking powder, & pepper.
  3. Cut in fat until fine like peas.
  4. Beat egg; add water & vinegar and mix well.
  5. Sprinkle liquid over flour & stir with a fork until dough forms a ball.
  6. You don't have to worry about over-handling. Remember they used to eat this in place of a sandwich, so it has to hold up.
  7. Divide into 6 equal size balls & set aside.
  8. Filling and Construction:.
  9. Mix meat, vegtables, salt & pepper together.
  10. Roll out each ball on a floured board into a 10 inch circle.
  11. Place 1 cup of filling on each circle with a piece of butter.
  12. Moisten rim; crease & fold over.
  13. Seal & flute edges.
  14. Cut slits in top for steam to escape.
  15. Brush tops with milk.
  16. Place on ungreased cookie sheet & bake for one hour 350 degrees.
