Fried Apple Pies-Dried Fruit

Ingredients:

  • 2 (5 oz) packages dried apples
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 (15 oz) package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 1/2-2 cups crisco cooking oil

Directions:

  1. Cook the apples with the water in a large covered pot over medium-low heat for 1 hour, or until all liquid has been absorbed.
  2. Stir occasionally.
  3. Add the sugar, butter, and cinnamon, mixing well.
  4. Set aside to cool.
  5. Prepare Dough for Fried Pies by Darleen Summers or Unfold the refrigerated pie crust and roll out until a 12 inch circle has been formed-repeat with the remaining crust.
  6. Cut each crust into 9 4-inch circles (do the same with the homemade crust if using).
  7. Place one heaping Tablespoon of pie filling onto each circle, slightly off center.
  8. Moisten the edges with water and fold over, gently pressing out any air.
  9. Crimp with a fork.
  10. In a heavy skillet melt/heat oil over medium high heat, bringing it to a tempture of 350 degrees.
  11. Fry pies in batches, 2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  12. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  13. Makes 16-18 fried pies.
  14. If you wish while hot sprinkle with granulated sugar.
