Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp butter or margarine, melted

Directions:

  1. Cream shortening; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg, and mix well.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  3. Spoon batter into greased muffin pans, filling two-thirds full. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
  4. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon; stir well. Remove muffins from pans while still warm; roll each in melted butter, and then in sugar-cinnamon mixture. Cool.
