Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup cornmeal
  • 4 tbsp cane syrup ( karo)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 4 tbsp melted butter or 4 tbsp bacon drippings

Directions:

  1. Combine flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornmeal. Add the syrup and egg to the dry ingredients. Stir in the cracklings. Stir in the milk and the melted butter or bacon drippings. Beat thoroughly and pour into a greased pan. Bake at 350 F for 40 minutes. Yield 6 servings.
