Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cuups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1/2 cup almonds, coarsely chopped or slivered

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch baking pan.
  3. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and baking soda; set aside.
  4. In large bowl beat sugar, butter, eggs and almond extract until creamy.
  5. Gradually beat in flour mixture.
  6. Stir in almonds.
  7. Divide dough in half.
  8. Shape into 2 long logs, about 12 inches each .
  9. Flatten slightly to make bottom flat, but keep top rounded (you want a crescent shape).
  10. Place on prepared pan.
  11. Bake 25 minutes.
  12. Cool in pan on wire rack for 5 minutes.
  13. Cut into 1/2 inch diagonal slices; return slices to pan.
  14. Bake 20 minutes more, until very crisp.
  15. Cool completely.
  16. Makes 4 dozen.
