Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Wash chicken and remove giblets.
  2. Half fill large pot with water.
  3. Add whole.
  4. Salt and pepper the water.
  5. Bring to boil.
  6. Simmer for 45 minutes.
  7. Ladle out of water.
  8. Let it cool.
  9. De-bone chicken.
  10. Drain water through cheese cloth.
  11. Cool liquid in fridge, let fat rise.
  12. Scoop fat off top.
  13. Reheat, and add vegetables.
  14. Let cook for 20-30 mins (gentle rolling boil, covered).
  15. Re-add chicken, bring back to boil.
  16. Dumplings: Mix dry ingredients, then add shortening and cut until it looks like meal. Then stir in milk. Then you are ready to drop them.
  17. Drop dumplings in water and cook uncovered for 10 minutes.
  18. Then cover and cook 10 minutes.
