Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tsp nutmeg (optional)

Directions:

  1. Line two 8 X 4 inch loaf pans with foil, allowing foil to extend over the sides of pans. In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugar, brown sugar, eggs. Mix in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and spices, if using. Blend well. Press half of the dough into each pan. Fold foil over pans with dough to cover. Freeze at least 2-3 hours or a few days until ready to bake.
  2. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheets. Unfold foil; lift dough from pans. Cut dough into 1/4 inch slices. Place slices 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets and bake 8-12 minutes or until light brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets.
