Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup ice water

Directions:

  1. Combine flour and salt; stir well. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle ice water evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
  2. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Beat dough with a rolling pin or wooden mallet for 20 minutes or until blisters appear, folding the dough over frequently.
  3. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness; cut with a 1 3/4-inch biscuit cutter. Prick biscuits with fork tines; place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 500° for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
