Ingredients:

  • 1 package. dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 cups flour -about

Directions:

  1. Soften yeast in lukewarm water
  2. Dissolve butter,sugar and salt in scalded milk
  3. Cool to lukewarm add yeast and mix well
  4. Put 1/2 of the flour in a large mixing bowl; make a well in the center and pour the liquid in,add the egg white and stir well
  5. Start adding the rest of the flour to make a soft dough that can be turned out on a floured surface
  6. Knead until smooth
  7. Place in a well greased bowl turning to coat both sides,cover and let rise to double in size
  8. Knead again and devide into quarters
  9. Roll each into a long rope.cut into 6 pieces and form into a donut
  10. Let stand onboard for 10 minutes.bring a pot of water just under boiling and drop bagels in cook on each side
  11. Remove from water and place on a greased sheet
  12. Beat yoke with 1 ts. water and brush tops.
  13. Sprinkle withe course sale or dried onions
  14. Bake at 400F for about 15 minutes.makes about 2 dozen
