Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 2-1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1-1/2 cup currants
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Wash and drain fruit.
  2. Cream butter, sugar and lemon juice. Rub in flour. Add salt & allspice and mix.
  3. Add currants, raisins and peel.
  4. Whisk eggs and milk together. Add to fruit mix. Add cherries.
  5. Dissolve baking soda in small amount of hot water. Add to remaining ingredients and stir.
  6. Pour into greased and floured (or lined) loaf pans.
  7. Bake total of one hour: 400 degrees for 10 min.
  8. Degrees for 15 min.

  11. Degrees for 5 min.
  12. Cool in pans on rack for 15 minutes. Turn loaves out onto rack and cool completely.
