Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 6 to 8 granny smith apples sliced depending on size

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven 425. Prepare pie crust. Use 9 glass pie pan.
  2. In sauce pan, melt butter, stir in flour to form paste. Add sugars and spices and bring to a boil. Reduce temp. and let simmer. Remove 2 to 3 TBSP of syrup and set aside. Keep reserve syrup pretty warm or it'll thicken. Add sliced apples to syrup, stir to cover. Pour mixture into pie crust mounding slightly. Add top crust, slit, then brush on remaining syrup before baking. Put cookie sheet lined with alum. foil under pie pan and bake on middle shelf of oven.
  3. Bake at 425 for 15 min. Reduce temp to 350 and bake 35 - 45 mins. until apples are soft. Let cool before cutting.
  4. Option: 10 mins. before pie is done, brush top w/ little milk, sprinkle w/sugar and cinnamon.
