Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 1/4 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Beat eggs, shortening, and sugar.
  2. Alternately add the milk and anise extract and the flour and baking powder to the egg mixture.
  3. Divide the batter into 3 mounds on a cookie sheet. (or 4 mounds on 2 sheets to make smaller cookies).
  4. With floured hands shape each mound into an oval.
  5. Bake 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees.
  6. Once baked you can slice the cookies, return to the cookie sheet separating each cookie, and bake for another 7-10 minutes to crisp.
