Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour , sifted
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375.
  2. Combine shortening, brown sugar, and egg. Stir well.
  3. Stir in applesauce.
  4. Combine dry ingredients, add to shortening mixture, and stir well.
  5. Fold in raisins and nuts.
  6. Drop by tablespoons onto a greased baking sheet.
  7. To prepare topping, combine sugar and cinnamon in small bowl and sprinkle on cookies.
  8. Bake 10 - 12 minutes.
  9. While cookies are still warm, press down slightly to create a crinkly appearance.
