Grandma's Molasses Christmas Crinkles

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup shortening (she always used crisco)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour (sifted)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves

Directions:

  1. Thoroughly mix wet ingredients together - - shortening, sugar, egg and molasses.
  2. Blend all dry ingredients together and then stir into the wet ingredients.
  3. Chill cookie dough for 1 hour.
  4. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  5. Roll dough into balls the size of large walnuts.
  6. Dip tips of balls into sugar.
  7. Place, sugared side up, 3 apart on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
