  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate bits (optional but way recommended!)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar to sift on top of brownies (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325º
  2. Grease a 9x13 glass pan
  3. Melt butter in a small pan over low heat, or microwave in mixing bowl
  4. Sift in cocoa and whisk until smooth
  5. Pour into a large mixing bowl and let cool
  6. The following additions should be stirred in only until just blended:
  7. Add sugar and vanilla and mix well
  8. Lightly whisk the eggs, then add to batter & blend
  9. Add flour, stir until combined
  10. Add nuts and/or other goodies
  11. Pour into baking pan
  12. Bake for 30-40 minutes, until the middle springs back when lightly pressed and the edges start to pull away from the pan
  13. DON'T OVERCOOK! When they start to smell really good - they're done!
  14. Let cool (yeah, right) then sift powdered sugar over the top, if desired
  15. Cut into small squares and store in a covered container
