Ingredients:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening or lard
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 3/4 - 2 cups buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425F.
  2. Sift the dry ingredients into a large bowl, add shortening or lard and cut up fine with pastry cutter.
  3. Add the sugar and raisins.
  4. Make a well and pour 1 3/4 cups buttermilk ,mix in to a soft dough
  5. ( adding the rest of buttermilk if needed).
  6. Flour counter lightly Flatten mixed batter to 1 thick.
  7. Cut in to biscuits using a 3 cutter.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown
