Rich Sourdough Chocolate Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups proofed sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Melt chocolate and hot water in small pan over low heat.
  2. Bring to a gentle boil while stirring constantly.
  3. Pour into small glass bowl and add baking soda.
  4. Mix well (mixture may foam).
  5. Let cool until just lukewarm.
  6. Cream butter and sugar.
  7. Add egg yolks one at a time, mixing well each time.
  8. Mix in vanilla and cooled chocolate mixture.
  9. Stir in sourdough starter.
  10. Mix salt and flour in separate bowl and then add to the batter.
  11. Mix well.
  12. Beat egg whites to stiff peaks then fold into batter.
  13. Pour in greased and floured pan (recommended size is 11 X16) and let sit for 30 minutes in warm draft-free place.
  14. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 35-40 minutes.
  15. Cool before cutting.
