Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup lard

Directions:

  1. Soak pinto beans in 6 cups of water overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse beans.
  3. Replace 6 cups of water, add chopped onion.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 3 hours, stirring a few times.
  5. When done, mash beans with potato masher or hand blender.
  6. Add lard (or bacon fat).
  7. Salt to taste.
  8. Continue cooking until thick and grease is absorbed.
