REAL homemade pudding - Lancaster County recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 6 cups milk
  • 1 1/4 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Combine first 5 ingredients and heat to boiling.
  2. Add soda and boil a few minutes longer.
  3. Add 5 cups milk, slowly.
  4. Reserve 1 c.
  5. Milk and mix with sugar, egg yolks and flour.
  6. Pour this into the cooked mixture slowly, and cook and stir until thick.
  7. Serve warm or cold, plain or with whipped cream!
