Raleigh Tavern Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cloves

Directions:

  1. Cream shortening in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, molasses, and milk; beat well.
  2. Sift together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves in a medium mixing bowl. Stir flour mixture into creamed mixture, stirring well. Add oats; stir well.
  3. Drop dough by heaping tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheets. Remove to wire racks to cool.
