Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 1/4 tsp dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp baking soda

Directions:

  1. Pre heat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Place a sheet of foil (dull side up) onto a baking sheet and spray with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.
  3. Combine yeast and 1 1/2 cups warm water in a medium bowl; mix to dissolve.
  4. Add sugar and salt; mix to dissolve.
  5. Add in flour and knead until a smooth, elastic dough is formed.
  6. Let rise for at least 1/2 hour.
  7. While dough is rising, combine the 2 cups of warm water and baking soda and pour into a baking dish or pie plate; set aside.
  8. After the dough has risen to double, pull off 1.4 ounces of dough and roll into a rope 18 to 20 inches long. Make an upside down U and cross the strands starting at the top to make a twisted stick.
  9. Stir the baking soda solution and then dip the pretzel stick quickly into the solution coating both sides. Place the stick onto the prepared baking sheet. Continute making pretzel sticks until the dough is gone.
  10. Allow the pretzels to rise again.
  11. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Brush each stick with the melted butter and add any topping you want, cinnamon, salt etc.
  13. These are best when eaten warm.
