Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Cake:
  2. Sift all the dry ingredients in a bowl
  3. Make a well in the center and add the egg, milk and butter
  4. Beat at low speed with electric mixer to blend and then at medium speed until mixture is blended and smooth.
  5. Alternatly one may also cream butter and sugar, add eggs and blend into dry ingredients with additions of the milk.
  6. Butter 2, 9 inch cake pans very well
  7. Divide batter into the pans
  8. BAke in a 350 oven center rack until cake is tested done, about 30 minutes
  9. Cool on rack about 10 to 15 minutes and invert cake layers to cool on racks
  10. When cool, I chill layers or partially freeze for easy splitting.
  11. Meanwhile make glaze by combining ingrdients to dissolve sugar and combinin g ingerdients.
  12. Set aside
  13. Make your favorite buttercream icing and set aside
  14. Split each layer in half
  15. Drizzle or gently brush soaking liquid onto layers
  16. Fill and frost as desired.
  17. Garnish as desired
  18. Note: I used a set of pans that have a heart shaped top layer.So I
  19. Did not want to completely frost the top
  20. Otherwise I would have then garnised with chocolate shavings
  21. Options: often the cakes may have a cherry filling along with the liquer glaze
