Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup golden syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350*.
  2. Grease an 8 inch square pan.
  3. BASE.
  4. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
  5. Cream butter and blend in flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Spread dough evenly over the base of greased pan.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes.
  8. TOPPING.
  9. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in syrup, brown sugar, beaten egg, vanilla and flour.
  11. Spread pecans evenly over base.
  12. Pour topping over pecans.
  13. Bake an additional 20-25 minutes until topping is set and lightly browned.
  14. Cool in pan.
  15. When cool, cut into squares.
