Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Saute onion in oil in skillet. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Add water.
  2. Cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Layer okra, white sauce, tomatoes and cheese in a lightly greased baking dish.
  3. Bake at 325-350 degrees for 35 minutes.
  4. This recipe comes from a book published in 1954. Jessie's Book of Creole and Deep South Recipes by Edith and John Watts is a fine heirloom collection of authentic Gulf Coast cookery.
