Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tbsp orange rind
  • 1 1/2 cup rye flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 5 1/2 cup white flour
  • 1 package yeast

Directions:

  1. Mix yeast and warm water. Mix rye flour, sugar and salt. Add 2 cups boiling water. Blend well. Stir in butter and cool to lukewarm. Blend in yeast and anise, molasses, and orange. Add White flour, as needed to make dough stiff. Let rise 2 hours in warm place, covered. Shape into 3 small loaves and let rise 1 hour. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Butter tops to soften.
