Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven 350*
  2. Grease and flour bottom only of 8 square pan or line with parchment paper. Set aside
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
  4. Add egg and vanilla and beat well
  5. Sift together in a bowl all dry ingredients.
  6. Starting with dry and ending with dry add alternately with buttermilk to batter beating well after each addition.
  7. Last addition beat 2 minutes.
  8. Pour into prepared pan bake 25-30 minutes until top springs back when lightly pressed and toothpick comes out clean when inserted in center.
  9. Remove from pan cool on a wire rack.
  10. When completely cool cut cake in half frost bottom stack and frost as usual top and sides. Makes OneSmall rectangle cake just the perfect size.
  11. To Make frosting
  12. Melt chocolate over low heat or in double boiler over boiling water .
  13. Beat butter until creamy gradually add half of the icing sugar beating after each addition on low.
  14. Add chocolate and vanilla mix well.
  15. Add remaining sugar alternately with the half and half, beating well until light and fluffy.
  16. Makes about 2 1/2 cups
