Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 6 -7 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Cream shortening and sugar, then add eggs.
  2. Add honey, molasses, & hot water mixed with soda (prior to adding to mixture).
  3. Add cinnamon, cloves, salt, and flour.
  4. Dough will be REALLY sticky - chill dough at LEAST 24 hours (4 days is recommended).
  5. Roll on well-floured surfaced to about 1/4 thickness and cut. Sprinkle with sugar before baking.
  6. Bake at 325 degrees for 8-10 minutes - they will puff up while baking.
