Holiday Taigalach -honey Nut Balls

Ingredients:

  • 2-1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 tbsp salad oil
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 cups filberts (or other nuts except peanuts) chopped
  • 1/2 cup candied cherries (optional) but adds a corlorful and festive look

Directions:

  1. Sift the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl.
  2. Make a well in thecenter and drop the eggs and oil into it.
  3. Work into the flourand mix until a dough is formed.
  4. Break off pieces of dough and rollinto pencil- thick
  5. Strips.
  6. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces and place on alightly greased cookie
  7. Sheet.
  8. Bake in a 350 F oven for 20 minutes or until browned.
  9. Shake pan once or twice.
  10. Cool.
  11. Cook the honey, brown sugar, ginger and nutmeg for
  12. 15 minutes.
  13. Dropthe baked dough into it and cook for 5 minutes.
  14. Add the nuts andcook 10 minutes additional, stirring frequently.
  15. Test the mixtureby dropping a little on a wet surface; if it holds together,it'sdone; if not, cook until it does.
  16. Turn out onto a wet board andletcool until easy enough to handle.
  17. Then shape into 3-inch balls between moistened hands.
  18. Decorate with the candied cherries, if youwish.
