Grandmother Wiley's syrup for Cracker Jack

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Boil until makes a hard ball
  2. Pour over and mix quickly freshly popped corn
  3. Set out in cold to make crisp
  4. As told to me by Susannah Hume Zimmer:
  5. Grandmother Wily used to always have crackerjack on the dining room table in the wintertime when Bill Todd and Susannah Hume (Zimmer) would be there to play at her house This would have been in the late '20s and early '30s
  6. My mother would make it of evenings and would read to me in front of the wood kitchen stove.
