Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F
  2. Sift flour, baking soda and ground ginger together in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut butter into small pieces and cut into dry mixture (using pastry blender) until you have the consistency of fine breadcrumbs.
  4. Add the sugar and mix.
  5. Mix the beaten egg and golden syrup (or honey or molasses)together.
  6. Add to the dry mixture, blending together to form a dough.
  7. Roll out on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick,.
  8. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  9. Place on a lightly greased or lined baking sheet,
  10. Decorate and cook for approximately 10 to 15 minutes (depending upon size of cookie).
  11. Check the color and spread as they bake to see when your cookies are ready.
  12. After they are done, leave on baking sheet for a few minutes then transfer to a cooling rack and leave to cool completely.
  13. Finish decorating with frosting.
