Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Combine the flour, spices, and the baking soda in one bowl. Set aside.
  2. Cream butter and sugar. Stir in egg. Add molasses and buttermilk/water. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet until just smooth.
  3. Bake at 350º F for 45 minutes if you use an 8-inch loaf pan or for 25 minutes if you use an 8x8 square pan.
