Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 4 tsp sugar , if desired

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 375. In large bowl, mix 1 cup sugar, the oil, molasses, milk and egg with spoon. Stir in remaining ingredients except 4 t. sugar.
  2. Divide dough in half. On ungreased cookie sheet, pat half of dough into 14 x 2 inch strip. Cut strip lengthwise in half into two 14 x 1 inch stripes with long knife; using knife, seperate strips at least 3 inches. Flatten strips slightly with fork with 1 t. sugar. Repeat with remaining dough.
  3. Bake 12-14 minutes or until edges are light brown and tops appear cracked; cool 15 minutes. Cut each strip crosswise into 1 inch slices; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Store loosely covered.
