Edith Bristows No Knead Raised Twists

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of shortening
  • 3 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • 1/2 cup of scalded milk
  • 2 packages of dry yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water
  • 3 cups of sifted flour, divided
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cups of chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 generous tsp of cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Combine shortening, sugar, salt, vanilla, and scalded milk.
  2. Add yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Blend in 1/2 of the flour (1 1/2 cups) and beat until just blended.
  4. Cover and let rest for 15 minutes.
  5. Add beaten eggs one at a time beating quite firmly after each addition.
  6. Blend in the remaining 1 1/2 cups of flour, mix thoroughly.
  7. Dough is quite soft.
  8. Let rise in 80-90 degree temp in covered bowl for about 1/2 hour.
  9. Combine, nuts, sugar and cinnamon.
  10. Divide dough in small pieces with a tablespoon.
  11. Roll each piece in sugar nut mixture.
  12. Stretch and twist into 8 inch long pieces.
  13. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  14. Let rest for 10 minutes.
  15. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  16. Bake 12-15 minutes.
  17. Makes 24
  18. Can be iced if desired.
