Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 cups water

Directions:

  1. Cream butter, shortening and sugar in a large bowl.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla and blend well.
  3. Combine dry ingredients and add alternatively with water to creamed mixture.
  4. Pour into greased floured 9 round layer pans or two 8 inch square pans.
  5. Bake 350 for 35-40 minutes for 9 layers or 40-45 minutes for 8 pans.
  6. Cool 10 min and remove from pans.
  7. Cool completely and frost as desired.
