Chocolate Caramel Layer Squares

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine caramels and 1/2 cup evaporated milk in the top of a double boiler. Cook until caramels are melted. Stir often. Remove from heat.
  2. Combine dry cake mix, remaining milk and margarine.
  3. Mix with an electric mixer until dough holds together.
  4. Stir in nuts.
  5. Press 1/2 cake mixture into greased 9 x12 pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips over crust.
  8. Pour caramel mixture over chocolate chips and spread evenly.
  9. Crumble remaining cake mixture over caramel and return to oven for 15 to 18 minutes.
  10. Cool on rack and chill for 30 minutes.
  11. Cut into squares.
